Citrus & Fruit

WHOLESALE CITRUS AND FRUIT

Citrus and fruit bring more than fresh produce to a landscape. Citrus trees provide evergreen foliage, fragrant flowers and colourful fruit, while deciduous fruit trees offer spring blossom, summer shade, seasonal crops and autumn interest.

Plantmark supplies citrus and fruit in a variety of sizes and forms, including traditional trees, dwarf varieties, standards and espaliers. This makes it easier to select plants for productive garden beds, courtyards, pots, narrow spaces, boundary planting and larger edible landscapes.

CITRUS TREES

Citrus trees are popular additions to residential gardens, hospitality venues, schools, community gardens and other productive landscape projects.

Our range includes lemons, limes, oranges, mandarins, grapefruit and cumquats. Popular varieties include Citrus limon Eureka [Eureka Lemon], Citrus limon Lisbon [Lisbon Lemon], Citrus limon Meyer [Meyer Lemon] and Citrus reticulata Imperial [Imperial Mandarin].

Citrus hystrix [Kaffir Lime] is grown primarily for its distinctive aromatic leaves, widely used in Asian cooking. For an ornamental and productive option, Fortunella japonica Calamondin [Australian Cumquat] produces fragrant white flowers followed by small orange fruit that can be used for preserves and liqueurs.

DWARF CITRUS FOR SMALLER SPACES

Dwarf citrus trees make productive planting possible in courtyards, compact gardens and large containers.

One of our popular compact lemons is Citrus limon Lemonicious [Lemon / Dwarf Meyer Lemon], which has a dense habit and produces versatile, juicy fruit. Other options include Citrus limon Eureka Dwarf [Dwarf Eureka Lemon], Citrus limon Lisbon Dwarf [Dwarf Lisbon Lemon], Citrus limon Meyer Dwarf [Dwarf Meyer Lemon] and Citrus reticulata Imperial Dwarf [Dwarf Imperial Mandarin].

When choosing between traditional and dwarf citrus, consider the available space, intended use, mature size and whether the tree will be grown in the ground or a container.

ESPALIER CITRUS AND FRUIT TREES

Espaliered citrus and fruit trees are another option for courtyards, narrow garden beds and other projects where space is limited.

Trained to grow flat against a wall, fence or support, espaliers can provide flowers and fruit without taking up the space required by a traditional spreading tree. Plantmark regularly stocks espaliered citrus, apples, pears, olives and other fruit trees in a range of pot sizes.

INDIGENOUS BUSH TUCKER PLANTS

Australian bush tucker plants can add productive value and a distinctly local character to edible and native landscapes.

Finger Limes are among the best-known native citrus plants. Their elongated fruit contains small, bead-like vesicles with a tangy citrus flavour. Varieties in the Plantmark range include Citrus australasica Crystal Finger Lime [Australian Finger Lime] and Citrus australasica Rainforest Pearl [Australian Finger Lime].

Tasmannia lanceolata [Tasmanian Native Pepper / Mountain Pepper] is another useful bush food plant. Its aromatic leaves and berries have a distinctive peppery flavour, while its evergreen foliage makes it suitable for native and productive garden plantings.

Always select bush tucker plants according to the climate and site. Some varieties need protection from intense sun or heat, while others such as Tasmanian Native Pepper require male and female plants to produce fruit.

BERRIES AND SOFT FRUIT

Berries are useful for productive garden beds, pots and edible borders. They can also provide flowers, seasonal foliage and low-growing layers within a landscape.

The Plantmark range includes Vaccinium varieties [Blueberries], including highbush varieties such as Vaccinium corymbosum Brigitta, Vaccinium corymbosum Northland and Vaccinium corymbosum Pink Icing PBR.

Our range also includes Fragaria ananassa [Strawberry] and Fragaria vesca [Wild Strawberry / Alpine Strawberry].

Blueberries generally perform best in acidic, well-drained soil with consistent moisture. Strawberries are compact, spreading plants suited to garden beds, containers and hanging baskets.

SEASONAL FRUITING PLANTS FOR VEGETABLE GARDENS

Our Citrus and Fruit range changes throughout the year to include seasonal edible plants for vegetable gardens, raised planters and productive landscape projects.

Spring and summer selections include Capsicum annuum Long Sweet Yellow [Capsicum / Bell Pepper], Capsicum annuum Sweet Mixed [Capsicum / Bell Pepper], Capsicum annuum Jalapeno [Chilli / Hot Pepper] and other chilli varieties.

Seasonal tomato plants, botanically known as Solanum lycopersicum, are available in a range of fruit sizes, colours and growth habits. Popular tomato varieties include Solanum Apollo, Grosse Lisse and cherry tomatoes such as Solanum lycopersicum Tommy Toe Red [Cherry Tomato]. Also check our Herbs and Vegetables section on our website for more options for productive gardens.

OLIVE TREES

Olive trees combine productive fruit with evergreen silver-green foliage, making them valuable for Mediterranean-inspired landscapes, productive gardens, pots, screening and feature planting.

Popular table olives include Olea europaea Kalamata and the larger-fruited Californian Queen. Olea europaea Manzanillo is widely grown as a table and oil-producing variety, while Olea europaea Paragon is another versatile fruiting olive.

Our olive trees come in a wide range of pot sizes, from small to advanced trees ready to make an immediate impact in the landscape.

APPLE AND PEAR TREES

Apple and Pear trees provide spring blossom, summer foliage and productive crops, making them well suited to orchards, edible gardens and mixed residential landscapes.

Popular apple varieties include Malus domestica Granny Smith, known for its crisp green fruit; Golden Delicious, which produces sweet golden fruit; and Malus domestica Gala, a popular fresh-eating variety.

Got a tight space? Plantmark also stocks a range of Columnar Apple trees with a narrow, upright growth habit, ideal for landscape projects where space is limited. Varieties include Malus domestica Cumulus, Harmony and Herald.

The pear range includes traditional Pyrus communis varieties and compact options such as Pyrus communis Trixzie Pyvert [Dwarf Pear]. Dwarf trees are particularly useful where space is limited or a productive tree is required for a large container or narrow garden bed.

Some apple and pear varieties need a compatible pollinating partner, so flowering periods and pollination requirements should be considered during plant selection.

PEACHES, NECTARINES, APRICOTS, CHERRIES AND PLUMS

Deciduous stone fruit trees bring productive crops and a strong seasonal display to the landscape, beginning with blossom in spring.

Plantmark regularly stocks Prunus persica varieties [Peach], including compact forms such as Prunus persica Dwarf [Dwarf Peach], together with nectarine varieties such as Prunus persica nucipersica Nectazee [Dwarf Nectarine], suited to productive gardens where space is limited.

Apricot options include Prunus armeniaca Moorpark and other traditional and dwarf Prunus armeniaca varieties.

Cherry trees include varieties such as Prunus avium Lapins [Sweet Cherry / Wild Cherry], while the plum range includes Prunus domestica and Prunus salicina [Japanese Plum / Chinese  Plum] varieties such as Prunus domestica Greengage.

Climate, winter chill requirements, available space and pollination should all be considered when specifying deciduous fruit trees.

AVOCADOS, FIGS AND PINEAPPLE GUAVA

The wider fruit range includes evergreen and deciduous plants suited to different climates and landscape applications.

Acca sellowiana [Feijoa / Pineapple Guava] combines edible fruit with attractive evergreen foliage and flowers. It can be grown as a productive shrub, informal hedge or small tree.

Ficus carica Figalicious [Common Fig] is a compact fig suited to productive gardens and large containers, while larger Ficus carica [Fig] varieties can be used where more space is available.

Avocado options include Persea americana varieties such as Hass and Wurtz. Avocado varieties differ in mature size, flowering type, climate suitability and pollination requirements, so select them according to the planting location.

POMEGRANATES, PASSIONFRUIT AND FLOWERING QUINCE

Punica granatum [Pomegranate] provides colourful flowers, decorative fruit and seasonal interest in sunny, well-drained landscapes.

Passiflora edulis [Passionfruit] is a productive climber that can be trained over fences, trellises and other supports, adding vertical foliage and flowers as well as edible fruit.

For an ornamental option, Chaenomeles speciosa Nivalis [Flowering Quince] produces white spring flowers on bare stems. It can be used in mixed borders or as an informal flowering shrub where seasonal blossom is a key part of the design.

2. DOES PLANTMARK STOCK DWARF FRUIT TREES?

Yes. Depending on seasonal availability, the range includes dwarf lemons, mandarins, apples, pears, peaches, nectarines, apricots, cumquats and other compact fruiting plants. Dwarf varieties are useful for courtyards, smaller gardens and large containers.

3. WHICH CITRUS AND FRUIT ARE SUITABLE FOR SMALL SPACES?

Plant selection should account for mature size, sunlight, drainage, irrigation and ongoing maintenance requirements.

4. DO FRUIT TREES NEED A POLLINATING PARTNER?

Some fruit trees are self-fertile, while others produce better crops or require a compatible pollinating variety. Pollination requirements vary between apples, pears, cherries, plums, avocados, blueberries and other fruiting plants, so check the requirements of each variety before specifying it.

5. WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO PLANT CITRUS AND FRUIT TREES?

Container-grown citrus and fruit trees can generally be planted throughout the year when suitable irrigation and care are available. Deciduous fruit trees are also commonly planted during their winter dormancy. The best planting time depends on the local climate, plant variety and project conditions.

6. ARE CITRUS AND FRUIT AVAILABLE AT EVERY PLANTMARK LOCATION?

Stock varies seasonally and between our Plantmark Wholesale Nursery locations. Use the Plant Finder at the top of the website and select your preferred location to view current availability and pot sizes. Registered trade customers can log in to view wholesale pricing.
