Nursery Hand

Plantmark – one of Australia’s leading national wholesale plant nurseries – is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Nursery Hand to join our passionate Thomastown team.

Plantmark’s operations include seven Wholesale Trade Markets with sales and distribution in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.  Plantmark has been the largest trade supplier to the urban development, landscape and local government sectors for over thirty years and has established an outstanding reputation for excellence within the nursery industry.

Key responsibilities

Reporting to the Trade Market Manager, the role involves general nursery duties including weeding, watering, merchandising, grounds maintenance and using trade equipment. Assisting customers, scanning stock, processing payments and liaising with suppliers will also be required.

There are two positions available:  full time, working a five-day roster and casual working Saturdays.

Essential attributes

To be successful as a Plantmark Nursery Hand, you will have:

-       Excellent knowledge of Botanical plant identification

-       High level customer service skills

-       Intermediate computer skills

-       Strong attention to detail

-       Great work ethic and be a team player

Applicants must also be capable of performing regular heavy lifting tasks and be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Plantmark’s operations include seven Wholesale Trade Markets with sales and distribution in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.  Plantmark has been the largest trade supplier to the urban development, landscape and local government sectors for over thirty years and has established an outstanding reputation for excellence within the nursery industry.

Key responsibilities

The role involves general nursery duties including customers service, scanning stock, processing payments weeding, watering, merchandising and grounds maintenance.

The position is a casual roleworking Saturdays and the occasional weekday.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Genuine passion for plants and people.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a proactive approach to solving queries.
  • Intermediate computer skills and experience with using point-of-sale registers.
  • Great work ethic, a sense of urgency and a keen eye for detail.

Plantmark’s operations include seven Wholesale Trade Markets with sales and distribution in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.  Plantmark has been the largest trade supplier to the urban development, landscape and local government sectors for over thirty years and has established an outstanding reputation for excellence within the nursery industry.

Key responsibilities

Reporting to the Thomastown Quotes and Orders Manager, the role involves customer and supplier liaison, creating quotes and coordinating stock dispatch and delivery.

The position is full time, working a five-day Monday to Friday roster.

Essential attributes

To be successful as a Plantmark Quotes and Orders Coordinator, you will have:

  • Sound knowledge and/or qualifications in horticulture.
  • Experience in sales including achieving sales targets and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for customer service.
  • Confident computer ability at intermediate standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Positive work ethic and enjoy working in a team.

Reporting to the Vineyard Quotes and Orders Manager, the role involves customer liaison and supplier liaison, creating quotes and coordinating stock dispatch and delivery.

The position is full time, working a five-day Monday to Friday roster.  Weekday business hours are: 7.00am – 5.30pm.

Essential attributes

To be successful as a Plantmark Quotes and Orders Coordinator, you will have:

  • Sound knowledge in horticulture or a related field is desirable - but we'll provide industry training for the right candidate.
  • Experience in providing sales support and processing quotes.
  • Strong communication skills and a genuine passion for customer service.
  • Time management skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to plan ahead.
  • Ability to work independently as well as contribute as a team member.
  • Flexible and positive work ethic.

Apprentice Nursery Hands

Key responsibilities

Production Nursery

Reporting to the Victorian Production Manager, the role involves general nursery duties including potting, weeding, watering, plant maintenance and order collection.

The successful applicant will learn all skills involved in the day-to-day operations of a wholesale production nursery and gain experience in the growing methods of a large variety of trees to Australian Tree Standards AS 2303 whilst under the guidance of our experienced production team.

Dispatch Unit

Reporting to the Dispatch Manager and liaising with the Sales team, this hands-on role involves loading and unloading trucks, picking and packing plant material for orders, records administration and general coordination of incoming and outgoing greenlife stock. Nursery duties including weeding, watering, grounds maintenance and using trade equipment.

The successful applicant will learn all skills involved in the day-to-day operations of a face paced inwards and outwards goods hub whilst gaining vast knowledge of wholesale growers, plants and logistics methods under the guidance of our versatile dispatch team.

These positions are full time, working a five-day Monday to Fridayroster.  Operational hours are: Weekdays 6.30am – 5.30pm.

Essential attributes

To be successful as a Plantmark Apprentice Nursery Hand, you will have:

  • > A genuine interest in horticulture
  • > Motivation to undertake the 4-year apprenticeship program and beyond
  • > Commitment to undertake a Cert 3 in Production Nursery or currently be enrolled in one
  • > Readiness to learn and be guided
  • > A developing work ethic and willingness to be a team player
  • > Self-confidence to work effectively unsupervised

Applicants must also be capable of performing regular heavy lifting tasks and be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Some weekend work will be required on a rotational basis.
