Goodbye winter, hello spring!
Spring has arrived, and gardens are on the verge of bursting with fresh life. The first trees are beginning to blossom, spring shrubs are thriving, and landscapes are full of fresh seasonal energy. With longer days and warmer weather, lawns bounce back, hedges need shaping, and it’s the perfect time to plant and prepare for the months ahead.
Whether you’re designing a larger scale landscape or refreshing a small courtyard, spring is the season to make an impact with bold colour, texture, and form.

Popular & blooming natives
At Plantmark, we're seeing a huge demand for spring standouts. Flowering natives are leading the way in spring gardens. Banksias and Grevilleas are continuing to thrive, while Kangaroo Paws continue to deliver bursts of vibrant spring colour.
Boronia is always a native spring highlight, prized for its incredible fragrance, with varieties such as Boronia megastigma Heaven Scent and the golden Boronia megastigma Lutea proving popular with our landscape customers.
Shrubs bursting into bloom
Shrubs are also in full swing this season. Coleonema pulchellum Compacta [Dwarf Diosma] is showing soft mounds of fine foliage and an abundance of small, star-like flowers, while Pieris japonica Temple Bells [Japanese Andromeda] is covered in fragrant clusters of white flowers.
Philotheca myoporoides Winter Rouge [Long Leaf Wax Flower] is dazzling with star-shaped flowers, while classic choices such as Viburnum tinus [Laurustinus] and hardy Rosemary are providing structure, fragrance, and resilience to spring gardens.

Groundcovers lighting up the landscape
Groundcovers are lighting up landscapes with fresh spring displays. Brachyscome sp. [Cut Leaf Daisy] and Argyranthemum sp. [Marguerite Daisy] are showing masses of cheerful daisy-like flowers, while Chrysocephalum apiculatum varieties [Yellow Buttons] are starting to brighten spaces with golden blooms.
Viola hederacea [Native Violet] is also thriving, spreading between steppers and in garden beds, softening hard edges with its lush foliage and delicate purple and white blooms. Discover more in our Groundcovers collection.
Spring blossoming trees stealing the show
Spring blossoming trees remain some of the most sought-after spring heroes, bringing instant drama and seasonal appeal. Ornamental Pears are always in demand, with Pyrus calleryana Cleveland Select being one of the first to flower, standing tall with a strong, upright form, while Pyrus nivalis [Snow Pear] is admired for its silvery foliage and delicate white blossoms.

Among flowering plums, Prunus blireana delights with soft pink flowers in late winter and early spring, while Prunus cerasifera Oakville Crimson Spire offers striking spring blooms on a narrow, vase-shaped frame – ideal for modern streetscapes and courtyards.
Weeping Flowering Cherries will start flowering from mid to late September with standouts such as Prunus subhirtella Falling Snow and Prunus serrulata Cheals creating breathtaking spring displays. Browse more of our Flowering Plum and Cherries here.
Trending & in demand
Topiary spheres continue to be in demand and making a strong statement this season, adding structure, layers, and form to landscapes. While classic Buxus varieties remain a strong favourite, native options such as Westringia and Correa are gaining attention and popularity, along with hardy choices such as Teucrium fruticans, loved for it's resilience and silvery foliage.
Flowering topiary spheres are adding an extra dimension offering both form & flowers, with popular options including Rhaphiolepis indica Oriental Pearl and California Lilac. For more inspiration, explore our Topiary Spheres blog.
Drought tolerant wonders
With unpredictable spring and summer weather ahead, drought-tolerant plants are more valuable than ever for creating sustainable, water-wise landscapes. They bring striking form and colour to spring gardens while thriving with minimal water – perfect for low-maintenance designs.
Succulents and cacti are leading the trend this season with Aloe hybrids such as Aloe Andreas Orange and Aloe Bush Baby Yellow delivering bold spires of colour that attract birds and pollinators. Other popular choices include Crassula ovata Blue Bird, showing off it's silvery-blue foliage tinged with pink, Euphorbia Cowboy ideal for creating striking architectural form, and Aloidendron barberae [Tree Aloe] creating dramatic features in gardens and large-scale landscapes.
