Cultural Notes: Although drought hardy once established Princess Magnolias require regular deep watering for the first 3-4 months until established. Mulching will help to retain moisture levels in the soil and protect surface roots from extremes of temperature. Mulch layer should be 10cm deep and kept 10cm away from the base of the plant to help ensure adequate airflow around the stem. Lightly prune in early spring for shape if required. Can be cut back very hard (removing up to 2/3 of the entire plant) if required for reducing plant size or rejuvenation. Fertilise with a good quality complete fertiliser in spring and summer.
