Brassica oleracea Acephala

We love Ornamental Kale at Plantmark!

Not only do they add stunning colour to gardens in the winter months, but they are pretty versatile and easy to grow too.

Botanically known as Brassica oleracea acephala, it belongs to the same family as cabbages, broccoli, cauliflower, brussell sprouts and turnips.  Ornamental Kale looks similar to its edible cousin but the foliage is much fancier and more colourful.

It is best used in the garden for colour, texture and to create interest.  The Kale develops large rosettes of colourful ruffled leaves. They come in a variety of colours, including whites, pinks, purples and reds.  Grows best in full sun and rich, well drained soils. Extremely cold tolerant but do not tolerate summer heat well.

Ornamental Kale looks fabulous mass planted or in pots. They can also be grown indoors in a large pot, but best in a bright, light, cool room. Come into Plantmark and discover these amazing, colourful plants today.
